The competition in the mid-size SUV segment is getting tougher. Therefore, the new Blazer is already coming as a new mid-size crossover. However, it looks like we are about to see a new body-on-frame SUV as well. As you may presume, this would be GM’s answer to the Bronco’s return to North America. The new 2019 Chevy Trailblazer will come as a rugger, off-road capable SUV with a versatile design that provides both good capabilities and high level of comfort. Considering that the model is already available in Austrailia and few more markets in the world, we are pretty sure that the North American version will come soon, along with Colorado’s update. Considering that the two models are closely related, the Trailblazer should receive similar kinds of updates. Still, keep in mind that this is just a speculation and that we are still waiting for the official confirmation.
2019 Chevy Trailblazer Redesign
Without any doubt, the new 2019 Chevy Trailblazer will have a lot of common things with the SUV for the Australian market. While the North American version was discontinued in 2009, the Australian models were redesigned and continued up to these days. The second generation is a product of the Australian department and it shares a lot of common things with Colorado. Considering that the popular mid-size truck came back to the U.S. market several years ago, this seems like a natural move. Two models share the same platform and most of the parts. This indicates that the new 2019 Chevy Trailblazer will get all those updates planned for its truck sibling first, and then come to North America. Expect updates in various aspects, starting from the visual appearance, interior design etc.
2019 Chevy Trailblazer Exterior and Interior
The new 2019 Chevy Trailblazer will is about to come with lots of visual upgrades for this occasion. We expect to see a similar approach to its truck sibling, which would mean a lot of rework at the front end. A new front fascia, headlights, and bumper are some of the things you can expect. On the other side, the base shape will definitely remain the same. It is a classic SUV layout, which features quite boxy lines, which can be very beneficial in terms of interior practicality. Speaking of the interior, expect a familiar dashboard layout, which doesn’t look too attractive, but definitely comes with hi-quality materials. Most likely, already base models will feature three rows of seating. For the North American market, this model will most likely come with more standard equipment, particularly in terms of the latest tech and safety features.
2019 Chevy Trailblazer Engines
Count of GM’s familiar units. In practice, this means all those engines that can be found under the hood of Chevy Colorado. So, base models should feature a 2.5-liter gasoline engine, which is good for about 200 horsepower. Still, a bigger V6 seems like a much better choice for this SUV. So, most drivers would probably go for an optional 3.6-liter engine, which delivers 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. Also, it is important to mention that this unit comes with a newer 8-speed automatic transmission, while a four-cylinder unit is coupled with a 6-speed gearbox.
Also, count on a familiar 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine. This one is good for about 180 horses and 370 pound-feet of torque and comes in a pair with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It would definitely be the best choice for economy-minded drivers, but also a great choice for those who need better-towing capacity.
2019 Chevy Trailblazer Release Date and Price
We are still waiting for the official confirmation, though various unofficial reports suggest its arrival already in the next year. If it arrives, base models should go around 30.000 dollars.
2019 Chevy Trailblazer Competition
The market is full of mid-size crossovers but there is definitely not so many body-on-frame SUV in the offer. Practically, the 2019 Chevy Trailblazer will compete with three models.
The first one and probably the biggest rival is Ford Bronco. The famous nameplate is coming back and, just like the Trailblazer, it will be based on a mid-size truck. In this case, it is the Ford Ranger. So, expect similar characteristics from these two models, though many reports suggest the new Bronco will put a little bit more focus on styling, instead of practicality.
The next one is the Jeep Wrangler. The iconic SUV is one of the rare off-road-capable models on the market. Besides great performances, this SUV is also famous for its classic, never-aging styling. The newest version came just recently and it features significant interior improvement compared to the previous generations.
Finally, there is the Toyota 4Runner, arguably the most capable model in the class when it’s about off-road performances. Besides spectacular performances, it also offers plenty of cargo space. On the other side, it definitely shows its age and all the drawbacks of its decade-old design. It looks a little bit outdated and definitely doesn’t feature refined cabin as Wrangler, for example. Also, count of poor fuel economy. All these things lead us to the conclusion that a new generation should arrive soon.
